Inflatable Tent Snow Camping

Why We Chose the Adrift Haven Tent
When we decided to leave the city behind and head for the mountains, we knew exactly where we were headed—Haba Snow Mountain in Yunnan, China. At 5,396 meters, it’s one of the most beginner-friendly snow peaks out there. For us, it was the perfect mix of challenge and adventure, especially with my wife taking on her very first summit attempt.

But before we hit the trail, we had a big issue to face: what tent could actually handle this kind of terrain? We needed something that could stand up to the cold, the wind, the altitude—while still being easy to carry, quick to set up, and, most importantly, keep us warm and safe through it all.

After extensive research, we landed on the Adrift inflatable tent - Haven. Marketed as a lightweight, 4-season, quick-setup tent built for adventure, it seemed to offer all the features we needed for a high-altitude camping trip.

We’re sharing our real experience with the Haven tent—how it stood up to harsh weather and ended up exceeding all our expectations

We’re sharing our real experience with the Haven tent—how it stood up to harsh weather and ended up exceeding all our expectations

Journey to the Base: The Setup Begins

Our trip began with a four-hour drive from Lijiang to Haba Village, followed by a full hour bouncing along a rough gravel road by vehicle, winding our way up to Dera Ranch at 3,400 meters. Even though we weren’t hiking yet, the altitude made its presence known fast. Breathing got harder, and we knew we had to conserve our energy for what lay ahead. Up here, every gram of gear had to justify its weight. And that’s exactly when the Haven tent started to shine—compact, ultralight, and already making our lives easier before we even pitched it.

The Adrift inflatable tent - Haven was a game-changer right from the start. Unlike the bulky, traditional high-altitude tents we’d seen before, this one was noticeably lighter and far more compact. It slipped right into a mid-size backpack—no need to strap anything awkwardly to the outside. No stiff poles, no bulky bundles—just one sleek, cylindrical stuff sack and an air pump.

On our first try, we had it fully set up in just a few minutes. Meanwhile, nearby campers were still struggling with their pole tents—fingers freezing, rods jamming, all while battling the alpine wind. It took them 20 to 30 minutes just to get everything standing. That’s when we realized: Haven wasn’t just lighter—it was smarter.

The Night Before the Summit Push: Testing Comfort & Stability

Dera Ranch is a breathtaking meadow camp surrounded by snowcaps and alpine trees. At this high altitude, weather can change in minutes—bright sun one moment, then icy wind and sleet the next. We anchored the tent with a combination of rocks and snow stakes, expecting to be woken in the night by flapping fabric or cold drafts.

To our surprise, the Haven air tent stayed completely silent and solid. Its smart design and wind-resistant shape kept it steady, even when strong gusts blew through the trees. Inside, it felt cozy and calm.

Also, the spacious interior was an unexpected luxury. Most mountaineering tents sacrifice livability for weight savings. This inflatable tent somehow managed to offer both. Two adults slept comfortably with room to store gear inside. The extra width made a big difference, especially when restful sleep is crucial before summit day.

The fabric was also more breathable than we expected for a 4-season tent. In the morning, there was no dripping condensation, it handled changes in temperature really well, the inside stayed dry and consistently comfortable.

Although the temperature dropped significantly at night, the tent kept us surprisingly warm—especially with the help of the Camping Tent Stove. The stove was easy to set up and fit perfectly within the Haven’s spacious layout without compromising safety or comfort. It provided a steady heat source through the night, transforming our shelter into a warm, livable space in freezing conditions. We used it to boil water, warm meals, and even dry out gear—all from inside the tent.

High-Altitude Utility: Performance That Matters

When we set off at 2:00 AM on summit day, every gram counted. Some team members had to break down their tents beforehand or leave early to accommodate longer packing routines. We didn’t. The Haven packed up in under minutes—deflated, rolled, and stowed with zero hassle.

After being packed and pitched multiple times, the tent’s structural integrity never faltered. The air beams remained rock solid, never losing pressure even after cold nights and long exposure to wind. The TPU inflation tubes didn’t stiffen or crack in sub-zero conditions—a known failure point in lower-quality inflatable shelters.

We met several climbers who were using traditional pole tents that had bent or snapped under the same conditions. One even had to retreat after their shelter collapsed in the night. That was the moment we truly appreciated the engineering behind the Haven. It wasn’t just convenient—it was reliable in real mountaineering conditions.

What Makes the Adrift Inflatable Tent Stand Out?

After our expedition, we took some time to evaluate what really set the Adrift's Haven inflatable tent apart. Here’s our take:

Effortless Setup, Even in Harsh Conditions

The value of quick setup at altitude cannot be overstated. In oxygen-poor environments, every movement costs more energy. The Haven’s inflatable design means no struggling with bent poles or tangled guylines. You simply roll it out, stake the corners, connect the pump, and watch it rise.

We loved that it worked flawlessly even with gloves on—a crucial feature when temperatures drop below freezing. The inflation ports are intuitively placed and easy to secure.

Ultralight Without Sacrificing Protection

It’s hard to believe how much functionality is packed into such a light frame. At high elevations, many opt for minimalist shelters to save weight, that often means sacrificing warmth, space, or overall comfort. This inflatable tent struck a rare balance—lightweight yet weatherproof, spacious yet compact.

Its small pack size made it a no-brainer for multi-day treks, especially when gear load needs to be minimized.

All-season Durability

Constructed with high-tensile ripstop fabric and reinforced seams, the tent confidently meets the demands of a true 4-season shelter. The air beam structure, once seen as a novelty, proved to be a practical innovation that offered real performance benefits.

Livability and Ventilation

The Haven camping tent provided a genuinely comfortable and livable space—something rare in high-altitude camping. Its generous interior width, large doors, and thoughtfully placed vents made our time at basecamp feel open and relaxing.

On cold nights, the insulated fabric retained warmth efficiently. During sunny afternoons, the vents and windows worked together to keep the interior cool and well-ventilated. It adapted effortlessly to changing conditions—something most tents struggle to do.
